Protein AutoAssignment Tools
Written by John B. Olson Jr. National Magnetic Resonance Facility at Madison

CONTRAST (CONnectivity TRacing ASsignment Tools) is a text-based, interactive program for automating protein NMR assignments using lists of NMR peak frequencies and intensities. CONTRAST's macro-based approach makes it possible to use data from any set of multidimensional experiments. CONTRAST scores the ambiguity in the assignments that it makes, and it gives a list of alternate assignments for each resonance and for each residue that it assigns. It is fast enough that it can be run several times to distinguish between variant procedures and data sets. Given data from enough 3D heteronuclear backbone experiments, CONTRAST usually assigns backbone resonances in under 30 seconds for proteins up to 20kDa.

The CONTRAST program, an online help manual, sample macros, and general program information are all available from an NMRFAM FTP site. If you wish us to send you the FTP account name and password or a uuencoded copy of the CONTRAST SGI executable, please fill out and send us a copy of the CONTRAST license agreement which can be downloaded using this utility.
